Happy Halloween!

We like to dress up on Halloween at work it makes for a fun time! I'm right in the middle but hard to see because I'm in black. I'm the witch from Sleeping Beauty!
After work I headed to Gardner Village to purchase some fabric for a new quilt. I loved the witch flying in the air over the river.
I don't know what the white dot is maybe a Halloween ghost! This is the little quilt shop that I went to. They had Moda Gobble Gobble line on sale for 30% off and I've had a pumpkin quilt that I've been wanting to make. So I thought I would wait tell the fall fabric went on sale so I could work on the quilt over the winter for next fall. I'll show you the fabric later, after I got home and looked at what I was going to do I decided to have hubby go back today and it me a few more yards.

Have a Happy Halloween!

A Day of Kayaking!

We rented a kayak for a day on the South side of Oahu where we could kayak out to several islands. Kayaking is one of our most favorite things to do where there is water. Here is hubby getting our kayak ready to go!
I'm not one to have my picture taken but I did let hubby take one! Do I look ready for a day out in the ocean?
This is one of the favorite place of the locals to ride the waves!

These are the island that we went out too! Boy it wasn't to bad to get out there but I got pretty worn out coming back.

On the islands we could also watch the surfers and explore the island!

My kids where proud that I asked a young girl if she would take our picture!

On the second island that we went had tons of birds in nest with there babies. They asked that we didn't get to close.
As you can see the wave where big from one island to the other so we had to paddle around to be able to get to the next island. At one point the waves were coming up and hitting me in the face! We had such a fun day except that when we got back I looked down at my legs and boy did my legs get burnt. And yes I did put on sun screen!!!That part wasn't fun I'm still in allot of pain and the legs are now purple!
Happy Halloween!

I've been gone for a week!

I didn't have time to post a note that I would be gone for a week! I bet you can't guess where! Yes it was Oahu and boy was the weather nicer then here in Utah! We came home to snow and the high was 37. I haven't gotten warm yet!
We spent the first day just exploring the island. This is the North Shore and boy was it windy that first day but nice a warm 86. I do love warm weather and it was nice to get away from the cold.
Its hard to see but there are several surfers out there in those waves.

I thought it was pretty funny that there was warning signs up and down the beach saying no swimming but I guess its OK to surf!
It was just beautiful sitting on the beach having our lunch and watching the wave come in!
Happy Halloween!

Just a little more Halloween!

Meet my friends rabbit and bear all dressed up for the big Halloween day! They are just sitting on my bench in my entry waiting to go out!
I love these little guys and wish they would make more. I have both sets that they made and I look every year to see if they just might come out with more.
You would think that they would make a set of three witches or mummy's!

Happy Halloween and thanks for looking!

Quilt Swap!

I received a wonderful gift in the mail this week from Kathy at Humble quilter. We have been reading each others blogs for months now and when she emailed me to let me know that I was her swap person and that she was going to be late sending off her quilt for the quilt swap because her husband was so ill. Will let me tell you I was pretty shocked to get her email because I already knew who she was. When I emailed her back to tell her it was me at homespunfiber she was pretty shocked too. I told her to not worry because I had known that her husband had been pretty sick. But she hurried anyway and got it done and off to me.

When I opened to package and saw it I jumped for joy. To start with I had been looking for something to go next to my shelves in my laundry room and just couldn't find anything that I liked. But this sweet little quilt is the same green as two of my walls and it will look so cute with my red shelves. And I don't know how she knew that I love to bottle all kinds of fruit. She also sent some goodies with it, finger grips, pin catcher, needles, a charm, book marker and some much needed pins. As soon as I get it hung I will post pictures!

Thanks Kathy!

What to put on my craftsman style door!!!

I knew that I wanted something hanging on my front door but I couldn't have a large wreath because how would I hang it. Under the windows is a shelve so a door hanger wouldn't work. So I thought what about something hanging from under the windows, but what and how would I hang it. I didn't want to put a ugly hook in my beautiful oak door. So off to the hardware store hubby and I went and we found the most perfect thing. Its a square knob that you would put on a cabinet. It matches our door handle so if something isn't hanging it will still look OK!

So now what to hang! I look all over to see if I could find something I liked and couldn't find just the right thing. So I decided to make a fall hanging thing. I'm not sure what to call it maybe a swag! I think I need a few more flowers but for now its just fine and all it cost me to make was $10.00. Now all I need is a pumpkin and a few other fall things. I did buy some pumpkins while the little boys where here but I let them take them home!

Have a Happy Fall Day!

Crazy last few days!

My daughter-n-law went out of town on Thursday tell Saturday night and yes I was put in charge of the boys during the day while Dad was at work. Thursday after picking the two older boys up from school we went to the movies and had dinner!
Then on Friday I picked them up again from school and then it was off to meet my daughter and her two boys at the Dinosaur museum. The boys had a great time but it pretty much wore me out!
Here's the youngest waiting with me for the boys to come out after school. I had him all day but didn't even know he was there most of the time.
On Saturday we went to the yarn shop to pick out yarn for the boys and my granddaughter some new sweaters. Two of them picked some pretty crazy colors so we will see how they turn out!

Fun times!

Candy Cane Quilt Top Done

I finished my quilt top and I did make some changes. It was coming out to small and so I made the striped border and the large dot border a little larger. But now there is just one problem I don't have enough small dot for the back. So its off to the quilt shop for find something for the back. I'm thinking if they still have the snowflake fabric that is in one of the blocks I will get it!

Have a wonderful fall day!
P.S. I'm freezing!!

A Few Touches of Halloween

Just thought I would show you a few touches of Halloween in my house. The table in my entry get decorated with a witch bear and her cats. I also have a little mini pumpkin with a witch and a tree with a witch brewing something!
She has a spider hanging from her one arm you can see its orange and black legs.

I love pumpkins so they seem to be here and there! Here is my pumpkin cookie jar with my pumpkin candle setting on my island in the kitchen. And in the back ground you can see my Halloween towel hanging from my oven it says on it "Witch and Famous". On Sunday my son-n-law started to wipe his hands on my towel when my son yelled don't use the decor towel. Then his said to him "even I know that you never use the decor towel".
I bought this pumpkin at a store called Ti Pan Trading for only $4.99! The candle came from QVC a couple of years ago.
Happy Halloween!

Christmas Quilt coming along!

I managed to get all the pieces cut out and several blocks are sewn together. And I thinking its going to be pretty cute! There's only one problem, its not as big as I thought it was going to be. I had thought that I had purchased enough fabric for a twin side but I didn't. But that's ok I'm thinking of just making the borders a little wider.
This is one of my most favorite quilting tools. Its for doing triangles if you haven't seen one before its great. You cut your squares and then pin right sides together and as you can see there is a point at one end that you line up with the point of the fabric. Then you draw a line on each side and then one down the middle. You sew on the two outer lines and cut down the middle and there you have two triangle sewn together.

I also managed to give Paisley a long awaited bath. She will be going on the 16Th to have a spa day with a hair cut but I really wanted to put her new Halloween collar on so a bath is what she needed first!
And here is her new Halloween collar!

Happy Halloween!

Starting a New Quilt

Today I'm going to start a new quilt! I've been collecting the fabric for a couple of years now and I finally have it all. The quilt is called the Candy Cane Quilt and its out of the American Patchwork quilting magazine from December 2004. This is the picture that's in the magazine but I just noticed that is upside down. I've always wanted to do a red and white quilt and when I saw this in the magazine I marked the page and decided that I would start working on finding the right fabric's for it.
Will here they are, all but one I did finally found the large checked fabric the other day. It was really hard to find it and I finally found one at Jo Ann's fabric. I really don't shop there for quilting fabric but I was not having any luck finding it. So its not as nice as the rest of the fabric but it will do. The quilt is going to hang in the hall in place of my Underground railroad quilt at Christmas time. So I'm hoping to have it done by the end of November. So I'm going to start today and work on it though Sunday we will see how far I get. It shouldn't take to long its a very easy pattern and the quilt is only 60X85.

So wish me luck!

My Bag Is Here!

My bag from the bag swap arrived a few days ago and I haven't had time to take a good picture of it tell today. But here she is and I'm just loving her!My bag was made by Sinta at pink pincushion and I think it is so cute and I love the lime green with the brown dots on the inside. You just can't go wrong with dots! She also sent a pincushion with some pins and a notepad with a cute pen. The pen has a sweet little bow attached that I'm going to take off and sew it to my bag. This bag will be fun to use as a knitting bag for my socks, its just the right size!

Thanks Sinta!
