Too Sale or Not to Sale

I've been working on some spinning lately and thinking about putting my wheel up for sale. But after a visit to Three Wishes a local yarn shop where I purchased my wheel I found out that I would only get about $350.00 to $400.00 for it and to buy it new is around $600.00. Now the question is do I really want to sell it or not. I was only going to sale it to purchase a new one and do I really need a new one. Yes the new one is out of mahogany and beautiful but do I really need it. Or should I just keep this one and just get the new one, can you really have to many wheels. But this isn't my only one I also have the Asford Joy that I take with me when I travel!
So I will keep thinking about it while I spin this beautiful merino yarn! This is my third spool and I'm hoping to get one more. The colors are great and I think merino is my favorite to spin!
So what do you think!

  1. Well, I say whatever makes you happiest. Have you tried the other wheel to see if it spins as nicely? You might get a better deal selling it outright rather than trade in, you can be sure they won't be selling it for what they gave you for it. Myself, I just got rid of a nice wheel (Timbertops) because I simply didn't use it and my spinning time is small compared to other pursuits. I really only need one wheel and enjoy my Ladybug quite a bit.

  4. Which is the wheel that will make you happiest when you spin and what one will you want to spin on the most? I just sold my Traveller, for not nearly as much as you can get there, because it was sitting in a corner, neglected. I spin almost exclusively on my two other wheels. She's gone to a good home where she will be the centre of attention.

  5. I'm afraid I have no advice to give. I have but one wheel, which I love (Ashford Traveler), and yet I think I might enjoy having another one, maybe lighter, or one that could easily spin lace weight yarn, if I ever become skilled enough.

I think that your merino is gorgeous though. So if your wheel spins such lovely yarn, why do away with it? Can't wait to see what you choose to make with your new yarn. :)

  6. I love those colors! And I love to spin merino too. I have two wheels but I'm not sure I'd want to sell either of them. I used to have three but that was too many. I know some folks collect them, but ?????

  7. Hmmm, I suspect I am an oddity. I only have one wheel and one drop spindle and haven't found a need for more. It seems "everyone" has way more than one of each.

Your wheel and spinning are beautiful.

Do you know about the used equipment group on Ravelry? Everything seems to move pretty quickly there.

    Good luck making your decision.
